Gen1 Concrete refers to a general-purpose concrete mix, often used for basic construction tasks. It typically has a compressive strength of 10 MPa (Megapascals) and is ideal for non-structural work where high strength isn’t critical. This concrete is composed of cement, sand, and aggregates, with the mix proportions ensuring it is cost-effective and easy to use.

Common Uses of Gen1 Concrete:

  • Leveling Floors and Screeding
  • Non-Load-Bearing Walls

While Gen1 concrete offers sufficient strength for many minor projects, it lacks the higher performance necessary for load-bearing or more demanding construction work.

Gen2 Concrete

Gen2 Concrete, on the other hand, is a step up in strength and durability. With a compressive strength of 15 MPa, it offers better load-bearing capabilities and can handle more demanding applications. This mix typically includes a higher ratio of cement, making it stronger and more resistant to environmental factors such as moisture and temperature fluctuations.

Key Differences between Gen1 and Gen2 Concrete

Strength: The most noticeable difference between Gen1 and Gen2 concrete is their strength. While Gen1 offers 10 MPa of compressive strength, Gen2 provides a higher 15 MPa, making it more suitable for load-bearing applications.

Cost: Because of its lower strength, Gen1 concrete is more affordable than Gen2. This makes it ideal for smaller, budget-friendly projects where high strength isn’t necessary. However, when durability is crucial, investing in Gen2 is a wise decision.

Durability: Gen2 concrete not only offers better strength but also more durability. It is more resistant to weather conditions, making it a better choice for outdoor projects exposed to the elements, such as pavements and driveways.
